At St. Aidan’s High School we encourage a healthy learning environment where pupils’ mental and physical health is enhanced through sport. Physical Education is right at the core of developing children both psychologically and socially.
The key fundamental areas that stem from Physical Education are life long skills such as discipline, respect, attitude, team work and dedication.
Furthermore, through Physical Education, pupils discover great characteristics about themselves such as commitment, strength and courage.
The aim of Physical Education is to enable pupils to have a platform of sustainable knowledge and practice of physical activity and long term health. PE is a core part of the curriculum and is taught to all age groups with the option of GCSE PE is available for fourth year students

There are extra curricular activities after school for pupils to develop and improve their skills. There is training and coaching for school teams in preparation for certain sporting competitions.
The PE facilities within the school include a sports hall, full sized pitch, cross country track and two outdoor courts including basketball facilities. The games and activities offered to pupils aim to provide a variety of challenges, which will add to the holistic development of pupils. St. Aidan’s uses Gortatole Outdoor Pursuit Centre for day trips and residentials, as part of the Physical Education Programme.
The school teams have achieved success at provincial and national level in sports such as Gaelic football. At Vocational level in particular, ladies’ football has had tremendous success, winning Ulster titles over the years.
