Learning Support
In St.Aidan’s provision is made for all children with special educational needs. We provide a curriculum which offers the relevant areas of study throughout the compulsory key stages 3 and 4. Within this curriculum we strive to identify and take account of the individual needs of all pupils with a view to devising and implementing programmes to meet those individual needs.
Pupils with special needs are encouraged to participate in all activities in the school. Once the pupils with special educational needs have been identified, staff of the school support those children by working with colleagues, parents and external agencies in accordance with the general Aims of the school, Curriculum demands and Code of Practice requirements.
There is communication at all levels in the school to ensure that staff, pupils, parents and involved external support agency personnel know what is going on and are of the pupils who require extra help.
September 2025 saw a new chapter in the provision that St. Aidan’s High school provides to our school community.
The new learning support hub is designed to provide students with a comprehensive range of resources and assistance to enhance their educational experience. It features a collaborative space where learners can access tutoring services, study materials, and workshops tailored to their specific needs. The hub also promotes peer-to-peer learning, allowing students to connect and share knowledge. With a focus on creating an inclusive environment, the hub aims to support diverse learning styles and foster academic success for all students.
The additional space for our sensory room, known as the ‘Zen Zone’, for children with social and emotional difficulties in our school offers numerous benefits that can significantly enhance their well-being and learning experience. This dedicated space provides a calming environment where students can engage in sensory activities that help them self-regulate their emotions and reduce anxiety. By incorporating tools like soft lighting, soothing sounds, and tactile materials, the sensory room encourages relaxation and focus, allowing children to manage overwhelming feelings. Additionally, it serves as a safe haven for students to take breaks when needed, promoting emotional resilience and improving their ability to engage in classroom activities.
We are also very lucky to have an additional ICT suite. It offers several key benefits that can greatly enhance the educational experience for our students. Firstly, it provides access to a range of digital tools and resources that can support diverse learning styles, allowing students to engage with content in ways that suit them best. The suite can facilitate individualized learning, enabling students to work at their own pace with tailored software and applications designed to reinforce their skills. Additionally, it promotes digital literacy, which is essential in today’s technology-driven world, preparing students for future academic and career opportunities. The ICT suite has been a great addition to the Learning Support department and serves as a vital resource that complements traditional learning methods and empowers our students to thrive.
